Started Visiting Trinidad

The work on New Dawn is now largely completed, for what we can do while on land and most of the remaining work needs to be done when we will be back in the water.

So yesterday we started our visits to Trinidad and the first trip was an evening in Port of Spain, where they are in full preparation for the Carnival later on in February. We visited several of the "Mas Camps" which are organisations creating custumes and steel bands (and big business here). The steel bands reherse since early January and they are achiving a high level of perfections. One of the best Bands we visited was the "Silver Star" and we were very impressed.

We liked this chap's look, but guess he did not like us.

People spend TTD 2.000-4.000 (€ 240-480) on each costume and it seems a huge industry and months of selection, designing and manufacturing.

First one select a costume, then the meassures are taken and a deposit is paid.

For us this is less than exited, but for the people we met, thy are all very exited.

Here is one of the manufacturing places. They work long hours and use loads of glue to keep it all together.
